Loretta Oberheim
About the Artist:
Loretta Oberheim is a multidisciplinary expressionist artist based on Long Island, New York. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Textile/Surface Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology and began her career as a carpet designer for a leading floorcovering company in New York City.
During her eighteen-year career in the design industry, Oberheim created carpet collections for residential and commercial interiors, and her textile designs were featured in publications including Vogue, Architectural Digest, and Interiors Magazine.
In 2013, Oberheim survived a severe car accident that resulted in a traumatic brain injury. The experience profoundly reshaped both her life and her creative practice. During her recovery, art became an essential means of processing trauma, navigating neurological challenges, and rediscovering her voice as an artist.
Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, Oberheim embraces experimental techniques and textured surfaces, often using palette knives and unconventional tools to create expressive, dimensional compositions. Her work explores themes of resilience, healing, and the relationship between the human experience and the natural world.
Oberheim remains active in the Long Island arts community and volunteers as Website Chair for the South Bay Art Association while focusing on her health and personal artistic practice
