About the artist: Andy Fiore, a Vancouver-based filmmaker born in 1965, is renowned for his independent documentaries focusing on the marginalized residents of the Downtown Eastside, a neighborhood notorious for violence, the sex trade, and drug use. Educated at Ryerson Polytechnic University in documentary production and creative media writing, Fiore initially worked as a videographer and animation teacher. In the late '90s, he embarked on a tumultuous journey, struggling with schizophrenia and heroin addiction while living on the streets of Toronto and Vancouver. In 2009, Fiore began producing documentaries with minimal resources and received grants from the Vancouver Foundation. His films shed light on addiction and mental health in the Downtown Eastside and are regularly acquired by universities and colleges across North America. He also produced a successful fundraising campaign for Powell Place and received the Courage to Come Back award for mental health recovery in 2013. Additionally, he directed the docudrama "ROOM 6," which won the Royal Reel Award at the Canada International Film Festival in 2015. In 2023 Andy released the feature documentary INVISIBLE NO MORE about the complex nexus between brain injury and the criminal justice system in Canada. It was officially selected by the New York Tri-State Film Festival as best documentary.
